Dental cleanings & exams
We will clean and examine your smile during your regular visits.
THE AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDS TWO CLEANINGS/EXAM A YEAR
Professional dental cleanings are thorough, and they clean hard plaque and tartar from your smile. Bacteria in plaque and tartar can cause cavities and gum disease, so coming in for cleanings helps keep your smile and gums healthy. Oral exams help us catch early symptoms of dental problems, allowing us to prevent further damage to your smile.
Plaque is a film consisting of bacteria that covers your teeth. Sugar can cause the bacteria to release acids that are damaging for your enamel. Plaque hardens into a substance called tartar or calculus, which requires a professional dental cleaning to completely remove. Plaque and tartar can lead to cavities and gum disease.
During your oral exam, we will look for symptoms of tooth decay or gum disease. We will also check your bite and utilize digital X-rays to see if there are any developing dental issues, and we will polish your teeth. We also have fluoride treatments available.
Regular dental cleanings and check-up are important in maintaining good dental health. Teeth cleaning removes the buildup of plaque and calculus (a stone like substance that attaches to your teeth).
The plaque and calculus contain bacteria which can lead to gum disease and other health issues if too much accumulates. While plaque is soft and can be brushed or flossed away, calculus must be professionally removed by a dentist or dental hygienist.
