How do I clean my baby’s teeth and mouth?

All infants should receive a gentle daily oral cleaning. We recommend using a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe your baby’s gums and clean their mouths. After your child’s teeth begin to erupt, you should help them brush their teeth at least twice a day. Flossing should begin after there are two adjacent teeth. We recommend that you brush and floss for your child until they are about 7 years old.

When will primary teeth begin erupting?

Your child’s teeth will begin erupting at about 6 months of age, and by age 3, their primary teeth should have all come in. Permanent teeth begin coming in around age 6. Our dentists and team will discuss your child’s oral development with you and offer solutions to help your child remain comfortable as they are teething.

When should my baby visit the dentist for the first time?

We recommend that you bring your child to meet our dentists as soon as their first tooth erupts or no later than their first birthday. These initial appointments are designed to help your child feel comfortable in the dental office and to provide you with the information and resources you need to help your child maintain a healthy mouth and smile.
